Chesterfield recovered from a double blow, one now more of a worry than the other, to roar back to victory at the ProAct Stadium at the weekend.

The loss of Gary Roberts, who limped out of the first half with a hamstring injury, was a major blow for Chesterfield and then we missed a penalty but that didn’t matter too much in the end as we ran out comfortable winners 4-1 against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

After a goalless first half Scunthorpe stunned us within a minute of the restart as Paddy Madden (46) fired the visitors into the lead.

The chance to respond quickly came our way when we were awarded a penalty but Eoin Doyle slammed this against the crossbar.

Doyle (55) soon made up for this missed spot kick though when he finished off a cross from Spireites debutant Sam Clucas. It wasn’t long before Doyle (64) was celebrating again as he finished off after Daniel Johnson put him away to make it two-one.

The chance for a hat-trick came his way when after Niall Canavan was tripped in the area for a second penalty of the afternoon; this time Doyle (72) made no mistake to complete 17-minute hat-trick.

A four-one win was complete late on when Sam Morsy (88) got away to fire home and move us up to fourth in the league 1 table.
