Strangest football story of the week by a clear mile concerns reports that financially-stricken Scottish giants Rangers are considering a deal to buy English League One club Bury.
The Glasgow club are said to be looking to take Bury’s place in the Football League but move home games to their Ibrox stadium.
The Shakers, promoted alongside Chesterfield from League Two in 2010/11 before consolidating their place in League One last season, have moved quickly to distance themselves from the talk which is being seen as a potential negotiating tactic to allow the ‘newco’ Rangers straight back into the SPL after the liquidation of the old club.
