Chesterfield are being linked with Sheffield Wednesday’s versatile left-sided player Daniel Jones as they seek a fifth signing of the summer.

Boss John Sheridan has already revamped his back line with the signings of Terrell Forbes and Sam Hird during pre-season and is now reportedly keen on a deal for Jones to add more strength to a defence that he regularly blamed for poor results last season.

Earlier in the summer the Spireites were also linked with midfielder Grant McCann after he was transfer-listed by Peterborough.

Championship side Barnsley and League One Swindon Town have also been mentioned as potential new clubs for the Northern Ireland but he believes his future may still be at London Road.

‘They are just the normal summer football rumours,’ McCann told the Peterborough Telegraph.

‘I expect to do pre-season training with Posh.’

Another Peterborough player, former Chesterfield loanee Nicky Ajose, has also been made available but as yet there has been little interest in the striker who scored one goal during his time at the b2net Stadium.
