So after nearly a month of restless waiting, it was today confirmed that former Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan will take over the top spot at Saltergate, after Lee Richardson`s contract was not renewed.

With just three names on the shortlist last week, the board of directors at Chesterfield have agreed that Sheridan is the man to fulfil their aims and ambitions.

Newly appointed Chesterfield chairman Dave Allen had promised to invest £4million into the club, but had declared of his ‘Championship ambition` for the Spireites, with the aim to be England`s second tier in just five years time?ambitious to say the least.

Sheridan 45, left Boundary Park in March after three years in charge, where he almost led the Latics to promotion in 2007.

Sheridan has agreed a three year deal with the Spireites and everyone at Vital Chesterfield wishes Mr Sheridan every success for the future?come on John take us to promotion please.

    I think this is a good appointment, Sheridan was brilliant at Oldham and hopefully with the boards backing, should do well for Chesterfield. Automatic promotion? I hope so.
