The Community Trust invited Players that took part in that famous game at Anfield, when the Spireites went 3-0 up, and drew 4-4. The footballers that took centre stage last night were : Mick Leonard, Steven Williams, Lee Rogers, Steve Norris, Paul Lemon, Andy Morris, Dave Lancaster, Trevor Hebberd and Lee Turnbull. Presentng it was Phil Tooley, we were shown a clip of the famous night at Anfield.

The players were introduced and then Phil had a chat with each one. He talked to Dave Lancater about his famous quote, that he said at thr Press Conference after the game, ‘I thought there might be eight goals but I never thought we would get four of them.’. The quote made the top ten of famous footballing quotes that season.

Phil asked Steve Norris about his chat with the ref, when he celebrated his second goal with the crowd, the ref said, ‘Do that again and I will book you’ he replied , ‘ if I get an hat trick you can send me off ‘. The audience were in fits of laughter, you could see the team got on really well because of the banter between them. They also mentioned that at half time they turned to then Boss and said ‘ What do we do now boss’ He shrugged his shoulders and said ‘I have no idea, just keep doing what your doing’. So much was the shock of being 2-0 up at one of biggest clubs in the world.

We then went and got our pies and peas, I have to say they were the best pie and peas I’ve ever had, they were lovely with mushrooms and potato, posh nosh I would call it. It was a great evening me and stand up had a great time although he at to sit down, although he stood up to eat his pie and peas.
The main differance between the modern footballers of today and the ones in the past, is that they use to mix with the fans, go for a drink with them, it’s a shame it doesn’t happen these days. There seems to be a gap between the fans and the players, they all loved their time with the club and have some great memories. Steve Norris got up and thanked us for coming.

I would like to thank the Heritage Trust for funding the event which was a great success, tickets and food were free. Their will be many more events, so look out for future events.
