Chesterfield FC began their transfer dealings for June early in the month with the capture of defender Sam Hird after his decision not to stay at Doncaster Rovers.

John Sheridan described the 24-year-old as ‘the type of player who will bring experience and leadership qualities to the squad.’

Sheridan’s defensive revamp continue with a deal to land Terrell Forbes, a free agent after leaving Leyton Orient at the end of last season. ‘Terrell can play in a number of defensive positions. He is a player I wanted to sign a couple of seasons ago,’ was the manager’s verdict.

Sheffield Wednesday’s left-sided defender/midfielder Daniel Jones was also linked with the Spireites while Grant McCann, mentioned as a target earlier in the summer, remained on the transfer-list at Peterborough.

Reports of a fifth and ‘major’ signing towards the end of the month failed to come to fruition however.

Crewe Alexandra pursued a deal for Jamie Lowry following his release by Chesterfield while former Saltergate loanee Ishmel Demontagnac signed a two-year deal with League Two rivals Northampton Town.
