It has been confirmed that Newcastle United coach Colin Calderwood has been interviewed for the vacant managers job at Saltergate, as announced by chairman Barry Hubbard last week.

Calderwood 44, is one of three applicants that has been narrowed down from over 50 that have applied, with the final decision expected later this week.

In the past four seasons Calderwood has led both Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest to promotion.

Hubbard told BBC Radio Sheffield “There are three which if any one of them came I`d be delighted,”

He Continued “Colin Calderwood`s applied. Yes, we have spoken to him.”

The other two candidates are being left anonymous at the current time, although John Sheridan is expected to be one of the other applicants.
