Richard Wood was brought to Chesterfield on loan by former boss Dean Saunders, who had him on loan when in charge of Crawley last season, after a spell with Fleetwood earlier in the campaign but his time at the Proact Stadium has come to an end.

Wood’s, who arrived towards the end of October to immediately then be facing the Cod Army, had made seven appearances for the Spireites (six as a starter) but his loan has been cut short by his parent clubs decision to recall him.

This decision was confirmed by chief executive Chris Turner on the Official Website with him thanking the 30-year-old for his efforts during his time with Chesterfield and Rotherham too for allowing this loan in the first place.

‘We would like to thank Rotherham for agreeing to the loan and thank Richard for the contribution he made during his time with us.’

If he would have been in Danny Wilson’s plans or not wasn’t clear but that decision has now been taken out of the new Spireites bosses hands with him likely to be looking for a new defender, among other options you suspect, in the New Year.
