Chesterfield have announced the signing of talented midfielder Lewis Montrose on a two year deal. After joining the Spireites on an initial three month loan deal, the 20 year old has impressed both fans and staff at Saltergate earning Montrose a regular central spot in Lee Richardson`s midfield four.

Montrose has made ten starts for the Spireites since his loan deal from Premiership outfit Wigan Athletic, where he had made two appearances for Steve Bruce`s side.

Regular football and the fact that Montrose will become a free agent in the summer must have been the reason behind the youngster committing his next two years at Chesterfield.

Talking to SpireiteWorld, Montrose said: ‘I am looking forward to progressing my career with the Spireites and want to play my part in seeing us get promoted next season.’

The midfielder is expected to be included in the squad for the weekend`s clash against Bradford at Saltergate after being out of action with a knee injury.
