The Chesterfield run in the FA Cup is continuing for at least one more round after the first round win against FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park on Monday.

A dominant Chesterfield performance, with early goals from Gboly Ariyibi (7) and Lee Novak (12) had the Spireites in charge and they didn’t look back.

Second half goals from Rai Simons (68) and Ollie Banks (87) made sure with Luke Ashworth (90) getting one back for the National League North side in injury-time. BT Sport, which is why cameras were in place, wanted an upset but this didn’t happen with the 1997 Semi Finalists safely into the next round with a four-one win.

Some interesting results, with some upsets, but on the whole those that expected to go through did go through with the stand out results, with them causing upsets to progress, having to be the wins for Salford City, Altrincham, Northampton, Eastleigh, Stevenage, Chesham United and Whitehawk beating Notts County, Barnsley, Coventry, Eastleigh, Gillingham, Bristol Rovers and Lincoln City respectively, to put them into round two and keep those cup dreams alive!

Following the Chesterfield win on Monday the Spireites know, with the draw taking place ahead of the game Monday night, that it’ll be a home meeting with League 1 leaders Walsall in round two.
