Portsmouth Football Club were founded on 5th of April in 1898 and are nicknamed Pompey or The Blue Army.

They have played their home games at Fratton Park since 1898, the current capacity of the ground is 20,688.

They joined the football league in 1920-1 in the Third Division after success in the Southern League. They finished 12th that year, and went on to win the division in the 1923-24 season.

The Club finished 2nd in the Second Division in the 1926-27 season, thus winning promotion to the top flight, they also recorded their biggest league win 9-1 against Notts County.

They struggled to cope with life in League One during their first season, the following year they suffered their worst defeat losing 10-0 to Leicester City which is still a club record defeat.

They reached their first FA Cup Final in 1929 losing to Bolton Wanderers, they reached the final again in 1934 this time they lost to Manchester City.

They had now established themselves in the top flight and they reached the FA Cup Final in 1939, this time it was third time lucky, they defeated favourites Wolves 4-1.

They won the First Division in 1949 and retained it by winning it the following year.

Recent success saw them win the FA Cup in 2008 under manager Harry Redknapp.

With big debts the club ended up battling to stay afloat and they were relegated to the bottom League last season. They are now owned by Pompey Supporters Trust (Portsmouth Community Football Club Ltd).

Their fans have suffered a lot in the last few seasons, they have stuck by their football club, determined to keep their football club alive and the fact that they can still attract crowds of over around 18,000 at Fratton Park in League 2 is fantastic.
